Black & white pillow

Hi everyone! This is a pillow I made for a friend as a gift. She's going back to her country in a few days and I  really wanted to give her something that was made by myself. I got to know her favorite colors and I chose black and white. B&W have the right contrast to say that even though she went to tough moments recently, she was very victorious in the end (I'm glad I could be there in both moments).

I used quilt-as-you-go technique and it is quite addictive! Actually I have more pieces to show (kind of UFO projects :-| that I started months ago), but, I'm finishing them ;-)

I've been very, very busy lately making a tutorial and also finishing my Vintage quilt ( I know, it was supposed to be pillows, remember? Oh gosh, it's another quilt!) for this week. Are you working on your Vintage project? You have one more day to add your link! Run, run, run!

Simply Retro Quilt along Week 5 - Dapper project and a giveaway!

Ready for the fifth project from the book Simply Retro? I'm! You know, this is the fifth project from the book but, I've selected and cut the fabrics since the first week of our quilting along. I was so sure about the fabrics and colors that I just did it!
I've heard some of you felling a little behind with the projects but, please, don't! I know it's a big challenge making quilts every other week. That's why this week I'm opening the link for new projects a little late. However, new projects will be accepted until August 11th. So, I think we will have enough time to add the link for our next project Dapper. Plus you'll get some little treats... actually BIG ones!

Our featured sponsors this week are: Fabric Bubb and Aurifil!

One charm pack Ride Collection by Julia Rothman (sooo cute!) and a Box with six 50wt spools (about $60 dollar value, WOW! I could make three baby quilts with one spool, think how many you can make with 6 spools!!!)

Please leave a link to your finished project from the fifth pattern called "Dapper" from the book Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley. It can be any project like a pillow, table runner, wall hanging or even a quilt top or a completed quilt from any size from the pattern. But, remember, only projects from Dapper pattern at this time! Entries will be accepted from July 26th 12:05pm until August 11th 11:55pm.

You'll be participating in the giveaway after you leave your link using the button "Add your link". Baby Love quilt and Week 3 winner!

Hello! Here it's my Baby Love quilt! As you can see I tried a new quilting technique on this one... I never quilted with curved lines before. I followed Camille's advice in the book Simply Retro when she says that baby size quilts are perfect for experimenting with new quilting styles.

I'm using the same Pellon cotton batting I used for Swell and Retro quilts. Piecing this quilt was really easy and my challenge for this one was making a quilt with one charm pack! Well, I needed fabrics for the rectangles that I grabbed from my stash. Also I bought a white fabric for the blocks and backing. But, the prints from the charm pack (triangles) really pops up, exactly how I planed. Little Red Riding Hood for Riley Blake Designs is a very cute collection. I like the tiny floral a lot.

I'm glad I took very close pics from the blocks (here and here) because there you can see better the dots on the white fabric. Very sweet. I love this pattern and I hope I can take a risk and change the background color in the next one.

Now, the winner for the Week 3 - Baby Love project is... Kathie! Prizes from our darling sponsors: FAt Quarter Shop and Aurifil! I'll be waiting your email! Thank you all participants! Keep it up! And if you wanna check the participants projects, click here.

Almost there... more Baby Love quilt

I'm almost there to get Baby Love quilt finished. This night I'm going to quilt and bind it. I know I won't have much too share when I finish it because I've already taken a lot of pictures of the blocks!

But, I hope you hang in there and wait until Wednesday. Besides the quilt I'll have also a winner (chosen randomly) for Week 3 - Baby Love project quilting along. (tomorrow is the last day to add your link)
Thank you so much for all the participants... the quilts are beautiful. Really ;-) As I promised I'm going to feature some of them probably late on this week. Good job everyone!
See ya!

Belle by Amy Butler and a workshop

Hi! As I've talked before Craftsy is offering a Mystery Quilt Along with Amy Gibson as a teacher. If you enjoyed her first block of the month series at Craftsy (BOM 2012) you'll probably enjoy being along with Amy again for this workshop where she designed a special lap size quilt with Belle collection by Amy Butler.

Belle is fresh, modern, fun and colorful! I can't stop staring at these fabrics... I wanna make quilts, clothes, pillows, bags... it's a world of possibilities!

The kits for the class were completely sold out by Craftsy in less than two days, but I was lucky enough to get it! The GOOD NEWS are if you do wanna join the workshop it is still POSSIBLE! You can make your very own quilt with fabrics from your stash if don't wanna spend on fabric right now. Or you can get Belle collection and follow along with Amy starting in August 1st! Just guarantee here your spot in the class

I've take some shots so you can see all the prints that come in a roll. Each one comes with 30 10"squares. More than 20 different prints in a single roll! Some sources where to find Belle online:

Deck-ade the Halls by Fat Quarter Shop - Block 4

I am happy to share that last night I could finish my stockings block from the Christmas quilt designed by Fat Quarter Shop. So far, I have the gingerbread men, the studded stars, the vintage ornaments and now the Christmas stocking block done :-)

Sorry I don't have many pictures. It was a bit cloudy today morning and most of the pics ended up a little dark.

I've to admit some minor errors matching the points on the zigzag area. Also one of the stockings weirdly ended up about 1 inch smaller than the pattern. I'm using a 1/4 inch foot and really can't explain why this happened. Any clue?

Well, hope you are doing well with this quilt. I've been dreaming with this quilt in my living room with all family wrapped on it...

A+ for Craftsy! And Amy Gibson new workshop!

I thought I already had enough reasons to give Craftsy an A+ (check here why). But we have got more from this wonderful online teaching plataform. Amy Gibson, the sweet teacher of Block of the Month series in 2012 is back with a new workshop starting in August. It's Mystery Quilt-along with Amy's instructions for her mysterious quilt design and her help on the way. I know you guys must be thinking that I only talk about quilt along (s) and I probably need some help to just stop doing that. How?! I love quilting with fun people! :-D

I received an email last Monday from Craftsy with all the info from Amy's new workshop (it's different than other classes, no videos but a lot of pictures and instructions). I saw the number of people joining growing all day long and there were almost 400 in this crew! So, guarantee your kit and workshop because I'm not sure how long it will last (Kits are sold out, but you can still join in August 1st using your own fabric!) The kits come with Belle fabric collection from Amy Butler. As probably Amy Gibson would say Cuckoo for Mystery Quilt Along!

Baby Love blocks

Usually on Mondays I've been posting my quilts from the Simply Retro quilt along completely done, even quilted (hours sewing at dawn), but this week I'm a little behind :-/ However I've my nine blocks done. Actually, the only thing I haven't decided yet is how I'm gonna quilt Baby Love... some ideas like free lines or straight lines have crossed my mind.

As always I had to make it a bit scrappy ;-) I had a charm pack of Little Red Riding Hood by Tasha Noel and some solids and polka dots that I added to complete the blocks. Camille suggests in the book two charm packs for this quilt, but I decided to make it only with what I had plus fabrics from my stash. And it worked. These are five of my nine blocks and all the colors I chose for them.

I'll be back soon with Week 4 (some delay to post it, but i'm gonna extend some days for you to link it) and all the giveaway info for the next project of the book Simply Retro.
Would you like to tell how have been your sewing experiences during these four weeks of quilting along? Do you feel it too quick? Do you feel like making all the projects? Which one/ones have you chosen to make? I'd love to hear!

Featured on Pat Bravo blog

I'm so glad Pat Bravo, designer from Art Gallery responded with lovely attention to the two dresses (more like tunics) I made for me and my daughter with fabrics from Carnaby St collection. She   pinned it on Pinterest, talked about it on Twitter and even visited my post to check it out. Thanks a lot. Carnaby Street is still on the top of my favorite collections lately. I want to make everything with this cool, 60's inspired prints.

She's also running a Instagram contest until July 15th. It's better check it out! Thank you Pat Bravo!

Retro quilt

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great Fourth of July last week! I could also celebrate (from far) my grandma's birthday. She turned 90!

Here's my Retro quilt from the pattern Retro by Camille Roskelley. It's amazing to see many others Retro versions at the Flickr group and here on our quilt along and giveaway

I'm very happy with this baby size quilt (nine blocks). I used the same Pellon batting that I used for  my Swell quilt. I also pieced and quilted with Aurifil thread, grey color number 2600.

I made this quilt for a baby boy, but I'm thinking on making another one for my living room as a throw. It just matchs with the colors and the style I like in the living room...

This quilt is so easy to piece! Oh gosh! It was quick. My major trouble was deciding which colors and prints I'd choose for this project . Believe it or not, I've pretty much decided for the fabrics for almost all of the quilts from the book Simply Retro, but this pattern took me a lot. A lot. After giving up of making it all scrappy I decided to go with simplicity!

Soon I'll be back with a new link for our third week of entries and another giveaway. Have you realized that we always will have at least two giveaways running in the same time? We're incredible lucky to have wonderful sponsors every week until we finish our quilt along... and we still have a plenty of time to play! Just join us anytime! I've been very happy answering emails from people with questions about the quilt along. Just ask!

Looking for Week 1 winner (Swell project)? Check it here!
Looking for Week 2 (Retro project)? Ad your link until July, 15th.

Hope you like my Retro quilt!
